Too often i had seen horrific breeding practices in this part of the world; dominated by pet markets and commercial pet farms.  Dams are over bred, often too young, and babies are unhealthy and brought up in sub-standard living conditions.

They are usually separated from their mother too early, resulting in all sorts of health conditions, a lower quality of life and a shorter life span.

At Fur Pedigrees we believe in the ethical treatment of animals and insist that pet breeding must be carried out in the most humane manner possible.  We will never deal with commercial pet farms under any circumstances.

We have an extensive network of IMCBR affiliated breeders, small family breeders and breed enthusiasts. We sometimes personally visit the breeder of every pet  that we supply where we examine the living conditions, verify the health and well being, and confirm the temperament, appearance and breed standards of their pets.

Prior to delivery, all of our fur Animals visit a qualified veterinarian, at least twice, where they are fully vaccinated, de-wormed, implanted with an ISO-compliant registered microchip and undergo a comprehensive health check up.  All of our breeders are certified to be healthy before delivery. The new owner will receive the original, signed veterinary health report including blood test results.

A friend suggested Fur Pedigree and I started to do my research. We lost both of our dogs earlier this year to old age and home just wasn't the same without our pets, so we turned to FP to search for our perfect puppy...and we found him! Loads of help and advice, answered any queries we had instantly. Our beautiful little Jasper arrived fit and healthy at the airport and was, and is, perfect. Thank you so very much to help complete our family again after such a dreadful start to the year. Wonderful service!

Tips and Resources

Valais Blacknose Care

This includes providing a balanced and nutritious diet, offering shelter tailored to their needs, regular health monitoring, shearing twice a year, facilitating social interaction, especially for their sociable nature, and implementing responsible breeding practices for genetic diversity.

Tips for Optimal Care

Explore insights and best practices to ensure the health, happiness, and well-being of your Valais flock. Trust Gordilly Park to be your partner in cultivating a nurturing environment.

Ample Space:

Valais Blacknose sheep are relatively large animals, and they require ample space to graze and roam. If you have a small backyard or live in an urban environment, they may not be the most practical pets.

Social Animals:

Sheep are social animals, and it’s usually recommended to have at least two sheep together. Keeping them in pairs or small groups can help prevent loneliness and stress.

Care and Maintenance:

Like any pet, Valais Blacknose sheep require proper care, including access to fresh water, appropriate nutrition, and veterinary attention when needed

Wool Management:

Valais Blacknose sheep have a dense coat of wool that will require shearing, especially in hotter months. Proper wool management is important for their comfort, health and well-being.

Zoning and Regulations:

Check local zoning laws and regulations to ensure that keeping sheep is allowed in your area. Some places may have restrictions on livestock within residential areas.

Reproduction:

While they do not adhere strictly to a seasonal breeding pattern, it is advisable to engage in natural breeding once annually. The average reproduction rate stands at 1.6 lamb

Healthy Hooves:

Regularly check the hooves of Valais Blacknose sheep, especially after prolonged period of rain. Wet and muddy environments can contribute to foot problems such as scald. Providing ample shelter and bedding will help maintain their health and comfort.

Breeding Records:

For those involved in breeding Valais Blacknose Sheep, keeping accurate records of breeding activities, pedigrees, and health histories may be required. DNA samples are taken and recorded as this helps maintain the integrity of the breed and assists in tracking the health and genetic background of each and

Fencing:

Although sheep are known to be good jumpers Valais are a more relaxed breed. They are regularly seen jumping for joy not jumping to escape. Many people enjoy haing their Valais’ roam close so they can have social contact on a regular basis and enjoy their friendly, loving nature. Ensuring that your fencing is secure so they can not accidently wander will prevent heart break.

Housing a zebra

As aforementioned, zebras prefer open spaces. Keeping a zebra is more like keeping a horse. A horse stable will be more than sufficient when keeping a zebra. However, make sure that there are large fields where the zebra can graze freely. This being an exotic animal, it would be wise to seek the permission of the local wildlife service body. Make a point of ensuring that the stables are always clean.

Diet and enrichment

Zebras are herbivorous animals. They feed solely on grass, leaves and buds. They may eat soft roots during a dry spell but when keeping a zebra as a pet you should ensure that hay is in no short supply. The diet of a zebra is quite simple though. As long as grass is available and enough water is provided, your zebras will be good to go. Zebras drink a lot of water. So just as the hay, let there be plenty of water for the zebra to feed. Zero grazing does not work so well with zebras. For enrichment you can allow the zebras to graze freely in the fields. There are some nutritional supplements for zebras. Saltlick and molasses can also be used although it is not all that popular.

Veterinary care

Vets who deal with horses, donkeys and even cows can also treat various zebra problems. You will be glad to know that zebras are not afflicted by the numerous health problems that affect horses and donkeys. As a matter of fact, zebras have been known to be quite resistant to a variety of pests and diseases. They do not require quite a lot of vet care as do most other animals.

Breeding and hybrid zebras

Zebras will naturally interbreed with members of their own species to produce fertile offspring. The gestation period is usually between 10 and 12 months. The young zebra will take about three years to mature fully. The weaning period lasts for about a year. The foal (young of a zebra) is fully weaned by the eleventh month after birth.Zebras have been interbred with other animals of different genetic group such as the donkey and the horse to produce different hybrids. A zebra interbred with a horse will produce a young one known as a zorse. A zebra and a donkey produce either a zedonk or a zonkey- depending on which of the two is the male. If the male was the zebra then they produce a zonkey. All these offspring produced through interbreeding zebras with other animals have the resistance to diseases and pests that zebras have. The zonkey is also notably stronger and larger than a donkey. This breeding has enabled the production of stronger farm animals especially in countries where donkeys are very popular pack animals. The only problem is that like all other hybrid offspring, these hybrids are totally infertile. They cannot reproduce themselves.
